41!

I turned 41 in March. It seemed like an odd transition from 40. At 40 I was just 40…now I am in my 40’s and it took a second to adjust. That said, I have never really cared or focused too much on age, but on how I feel mentally and physically. I dedicated 41 to being a year of health. I wanted to be strong, have endurance, feel good in a swimsuit this summer and be able to keep running around with my 4 year old.

When COVID hit, my promise for good health went out the window - I know I’m not the only one. Too much wine and too many delicious dinners we were making at home added up fast. After a month of indulgence, I woke up one morning and decided it was time to refocus my energy and spend time on health, rather than feeling fuzzy and fluffy. I really had no excuse either. We have a Peloton, live where I can walk or run for miles out my front door, hike a few local trails, and with apps from Nike and Peloton, I have strength training, boot camps, yoga, and more at my fingertips…the choice was mine.

New routines are hard at first, but slowly, they become part of your day. Start with trying to adjust one thing each week whether it’s more exercise, less alcohol, going to bed earlier, or making better food choices. I promise if you are committed to making a lifestyle change, you can.

After about a month of more exercise and better cleaner food choices, I feel leaner and stronger, well rested, and don’t crave as many comfort foods. Thankfully I don’t have a sweet tooth, but a piece of good chocolate is always ok!
