Lakeside Picnic

The other day my husband and I had an interesting conversation about our favorite childhood memories with our parents. While we went down the rabbit hole of some fond…and not so fond…memories, I had the sudden urge to plan a date with my little man and make some good memories of us away from the house, the computer, and of our normal routine.

While there are a million things we could have done together, I thought it would be nice to be outside in the warm January sun, have some freedom to run around, pack a simple picnic, and just visit with my sweet little man. I feel like time is getting the best of me, so this year, I am going to make a massive effort to spend as much uninterrupted time with him as possible.

My little one loves the water, so, I decided to pick him up early from school and take him to Lake Cachuma for a picnic. Since he absolutely loves sushi, as a special treat I popped by our local market and grabbed a couple rolls, and away we went for a mother-son date!

As we visited and he told me about his day, we watched the birds, fed some birds, watch boaters fishing, saw a beautiful herron, and of course threw a BUNCH of rocks. It was so simple and so sweet to spend that time with him. As much as I say it, a picnic is such a great way to hang with your kiddos and watch their imagination run wild!

…and if you see trash around your park or favorite picnic spot, do your part and pick it up!
