72 Hour Detox

Every couple years I decide I need a good cleanse. Not all of them have worked, but I always feel it’s a good reset after a long weekend…or just 2020! I recently finished a 72 hour juice cleanse to give September a real kick start. I failed. YUP, FAILED! I was great all day, minus a few snide comments to the husband, but when it got to around 5 or 6pm, I was feeling light headed and with our heat wave, just a bit unwell after day 1. Day 2 was better and Day 3 fine. I finished with my juice rations (64oz) before 7pm and as active as I am, needed something more. My solution to this problem was to cleanse during the day and have a VERY light snack at night - rice and veggies with a little ground turkey on night one. Rice and broccoli with 2oz of fish night two and Kale salad night 3. So basically I cheated and I am ok with that. I am not one to sacrafice anything for a quick fix so I modified when needed, and did the best I could.

When I turned 40 my body changed. Over the past year and a half I have probably put on roughly 8-10 lbs, which for me is a lot. On the 4th morning after my modified cleanse was over I had lost 3.2lbs. Before anyone starts going bananas about weight and self acceptance, I think we all have our goal weight which makes us feel good and healthy. I am still not there yet but working on it slowly. I exercise regularly and eat well, but 2020 has been the cherry on top!

I followed a cleanse I found on Pinterest from The Habit. It looked good so I went for it. There is a week of prep leading up to the cleanse that I didn’t do, but regardless, I gave it a shot. If you have looked at any of my recipes, you will know that I am not one for following them, so I did modify slightly. Nothing major, but I left out parsley on day 1, and cilantro on day 2. The Habit recipe notes that each juice should be around 64oz, but I was short everyday so I would bulk up on everything. It might not be perfect, but it can’t hurt right?

Anyway, if you have any good cleanses send them my way, I would love to do another one,
