Waylon’s 5th Birthday

I am a mom who chooses experience and/or a special day as a family over a big birthday party. We have always had pretty chill celebrations with our family and closests friends over the past 4 years, but since Waylon is turning 5, I wanted it to be special…and Disneyland isn’t an option!

When we asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, he said he wanted to have a beach party with his friends. Perfect! It’s open, outside, there’s space to spread out, and we LOVE the beach.

With food sharing being tricky, we picked up pre-wrapped bean and cheese burritos from our local Mexican restaurant, and I made a bunch of fruit skewers with watermelon, strawberries and blueberries. Waylon requested chocolate cupcakes with blue frosting so we ordered mini cupcakes from Enjoy Cupcakes. It was simple, easy, and had minimal waste.

For party favors I wanted to keep them plastic free and something the kids will actually use. Since there is a lot of back and forth with school work, pod groups, and play dates, I made little tote bags with their names stamped on leather…and kids aviator sunglasses to keep the beach theme!

It was the perfect afternoon and he had the best time!
